Pink Wednesday: You’re an Angel vs. Cute as a button

Index finger and Ring finger: You’re an Angel from Nicole by OPI
Middle finger and pinkie: Cute as a button from Essie

I made this comparison on reader’s request. Your’re an Angel tends towards pink more than Cute as a Button, which I find to look coral in some lights and bright pink in others. Also, Cute as a Button is a plain creme, while You’re an Angel has a golden shimmer to it. I love both, and I wore this skittles manicure for quite some time!

which green is witch green?

Hmm. A light forest green. On the website it is described as “mermaid green sparkling metallic”. Well, it sparkles, and it’s green, but I don’t see a mermaid in there. Plus, I don’t find it metallic. In my eyes, this is one of the awesome glassflecks that I adore Zoya for. Check out the Sparkle collection or the Sunshine collection for more of these great glassflecks! They are generally easy to apply, ok to remove and great concerning longevity and pigmentation. If you’re very skilled, you’ll only need one coat; I’m wearing two. I really, really, really love those Zoya glassflecks, and I must say, Ivanka is growing on me. Plus I wore it to the Harry Potter Premiere, because I think it’s such a witch colour ;)

Chanel Peridot’s Chemistry is diving 507 times Malaysia

Today I have a huge comparison post for you. I put all the pictures that belong to each other together, you can click them to enlarge! Enjoy!

Let’s start with Chemistry 507. I applied 3 coats. It is a very pretty duochrome polish from Australia, where they retail for 4,55AUD. You can have a look at this online store. The colour of 507 shifts from a deep, rich yellowish gold to a pretty grass green. But, enough talking, here it is!

Next we have Chanel Peridot from this year’s fall collection. It is probably the one stealing the most attention, although Graphite and Quartz are beautiful too. I have a bone to pick with Chanel since I bought Paradoxal, because it chips in no time. Since I haven’t worn Peridot as a full manicure yet, I’ll have to get back to you concerning the chipping. Anyways, on the picture I’m also wearing 3 coats. Chanel retails for 22,95€ in Austria, so it is rather expensive.

Another polish that was brought into the equasion is Sephora Diving in Malaysia. I bought it on vacation in Paris, but I found it in the Netherlands at Sephora as well. I understood that it is a Europe exclusive, but I can’t say for sure! I bought it for 5,7€. On the pictures you can see 2 coats.

As I sent my Diving in Malaysia to a friend in the US before I had the chance to make comparison pictures, you just have to trust me when I say that it isn’t worth getting Peridot if you own Diving in Malaysia. While I think that there are teensy differences, they are close enough to say that Diving in Malaysia is a dupe for Peridot. It’s just as cool-toned as Peridot, as sparkly in the sun, and has the same duochrome effect. The bottle is much smaller though, so if you want to be on the safe side, you might want to get two!

Concerning Peridot vs. 507, I have to disappoint you: They’re not dupes. You’ll have to be a nail polish freak like me to see the difference though; 507 is only a little warmer in colour. But see for yourself!

The difference is more obvious on this iPhone picture:

Now, let me know, did you expect Peridot to be duped? What do you think about Chemistry 507? Are you caving and buying Peridot/Diving in Malaysia/507? What do you think about the colour, does it justify the hype?

strawberries on LSD

Well, this Revlon polish doesn’t smell, it’s only colour this time – but what a colour! Strawberry Electric looks like pink on speed, seriously.. It has this shimmery-pearly finish, but it could pass as a neon. Imagine the reflective vests one has in cars and sees on police men regulation traffic in PINK instead of yellow or orange. It’s like this. It reminded me of OPI La Paz-etively Hot, but it lacks the blue shimmer. If I was living in the late 80ies or early 90ies, I would have worn this colour to fit my neon swimsuit (summer) or neon one-piece skiing suit (winter). Since I’m not, I have to give this polish some thought – should it stay or should it go?

red keeper

Orly Star Spangled: a red glittery polish. You have to love this one. It’s so pretty! It’s not a regular totally over the top glitter polish, it’s not a boring creme red, it’s not a boring metallic red, NO! It’s vibrant, sparkly and has depth. Really, I don’t keep many reds but I love this one.
Technical stuff: 2 coats, awesome.

Technisches: 2 Schichten Grossartigkeit.

Guest post: Carly shares her Summer Top 5 polishes!

Carly from Lacquered Lover agreed to share her top 5 nail polishes for this summer, and thanks to her, I had to add quite some to my wishlist… So, if you’re not in the mood for polish shopping DO NOT read this post, I repeat do not… ah. Where’s my credit card?

Hello fellow lacquered lovers!  I’m so excited to be doing this guest post!  Big thanks to Caroline for letting me do it!  Today, I’m giving you my 5 favorite polishes for summer 2011!

First up is ManGlaze Fuck Off and Dye.  Now, I am NOT a pink person and generally don’t like pinks so to be honest, I bought this polish for the name because it cracked me up!  However once I tried it, I was in love!  It’s a gorgeous bright pink matte with a bit of shimmer that’s just perfect for summer days!  It’s even pretty with a top coat but I prefer the matte original!

Next up is Butter London Dosh.  This was the second Butter London polish I tried and the first one I really loved!  It’s a beautiful light olive toned green packed with gold shimmer!  The shimmer in gold really makes this look multidimensional and I just think it’s stunning.  Totally worth the $14 price tag since I don’t have any dupes in my collection!

Obviously a post about summer polish needs to include some holographic polishes!  Here I have my favorite Nfu-Oh polish, 65 which is a gorgeous light blue with some major linear holographic effect to it!  On the ring finger is an accent nail of Nfu-Oh 61 which is a silver holo but the blue is really the standout of the Nfu-Oh holos for me!  I love the rainbow effect and how pretty the blue is on its own!  I’ve done a LOT of manicures with my Nfu-Oh 65 this summer because I love staring at it in the sun!

This next one isn’t really a nail polish but it’s a nail sticker!  I fell in love with Sally Hansen Salon Effects this summer because I am not a nail at person and this let me have really fun nails without all the effort!  Misbehaved was by far my favorite.  I wore it on a beach weekend with my girlfriends and it was just perfect!  The light champagne sparkly base was great for both day and night and the fishnet pattern made it just a bit more fun!  Plus they were super easy to apply (once I figured it out) and I just love these!

Last but certainly not least is my new favorite polish.  It’s not exactly a summer shade although I’ve worn it 3 times in the last 3 weeks I’ve had it.  Chanel Graphite is absolutely stunning.  It’s a polish for any season.  The dark charcoal base, the gold glitter, the silver shimmer, this polish matches everything and looks amazing!  Sure, it’s $25 and that’s pretty steep, but when you want to treat yourself to something really special, THIS is the polish to get!

Thanks again Caroline for letting me do this guest post and I hope you all enjoyed!

Thanks Carly! I’ll send you my credit card bill later :)

Mint Chewing gum

Make sure you enter my Giveaway because IT’S THE LAST DAY TO ENTER!

Also, if you’d like a preview of my franken polish Atlantis at Vampy Varnish, click here!

Orly Gumdrop. Mint green, pastel, pain to apply unless you have the patience to give it a couple of hours. I’m not to amazed by this to be very honest. It is a little too blue toned to be a proper mint colour, and although I can’t prove it because I don’t own too many mint coloured polishes, I’m sure there are enough similar colours out there. Above shown are 3 painful coats with SV to cover up the unevenness.

Orly Gumdrop.

Pink Wednesday: Holo to die for

Only 1 more day to enter my Giveaway!

Rated Holographic from the China Glaze Kaleidoskope Collection is a very beautiful dusty pink with a scattered holo effect. It applies wonderfully (this is 2 coats), and looks pretty in shade as well as in direct sun. Just make sure when wearing holos not to wear a topcoat, as that can dull the holo effect! If you’re lemming this polish, you can email me or order a surprise package. The first 5 surprise packages will have a polish from the Kaleidoskope or OMG collection!

Obviosly, this is in the sun / Sonnenlicht

Rocket or Rockette?

Make sure you enter my Giveaway because there are only 2 days left!!

I’m not sure if this polish is called Rockin’ Rockette or Rockin’ Rocket. I’ve seen bottles with both tags – the large ones are called Rockin’ Rocket and the minis have Rockin’ Rockette stamped on them. Anyhow, this is a burgundy shimmer with a gold flash, very pretty in sunlight, and an absolute Christmas colour (it was released in a Christmas collection originally). I’m not a burgundy person, but even I have to admit that this is a very flattering colour. And very Christmas-y!
Technical stuff: 2 coats, no topcoat; pic taken in daylight.
