Your weekly dose of holo: color club harp on it

Hi there! I know, I know, it is not really your weekly dose of holo. It’s mor eof an eventual holographic nail polish related post. Well, I try to keep it up again, thanks to the seasons, I have more opportunities to make nice pictures for you again.

color club Harp on it – your “standard” silver holographic nail polish. The color is silver, there’s no doubt. Plus you can see the rainbow effect, so it must be a holographic polish. I used 2 coats. The first picture is taken in the lightbox (indirect light).
color club harp on it_1

Well. Your average silver holo looks your average silver holo on steroids if you see it in direct light.

See the awesome rainbow effect? I think this is the strongest silver holo to ever reach my tips. (Pictures were made with flash!)

How I wore it: color club beyond

I’ve had it with this weather! And I’ve had it to complain about it! Why can’t I have nothing to complain about? :)
color club beyond_4

Anyhow. The weather explains the lack of me wearing holographic nailpolish, not that I wear it everyday, but it is fun to wear it in the sun. T. borrowed me her color club in beyond, which is an awesome charcoal (the closest a holo can get to black?) holographic polish.
color club beyond_5

Well, we have to make do with what we can! The above picture was taken out in daylight, but no direct sun. It’s still pretty awesome. Below I have some pictures for you that I took in the lightbox, with flash.

I must admit, this polish is awesome, and great fun to wear. I do love the look of black/dark grey holos! Just when I was trying to fix my hair (my hair-do usually dissolves randomly at the most unfortunate moments), the sun came out. So what does a good blogger do? Pretend this is a picture of my hair-do. I followed this tutorial [none] from this awesome person [no-one]. (and that is visible!)
color club beyond_8

The most beautiful thing is though, that the plants don’t all care if it is spring or winter. This bush in the background decided it was time to bloom, and so it did.

I’m wearing a pullover I bought last year (2011, not 2012), from WE, and I thought I would just wear it every now and then, because not exactly my style, but it is warm. Well, I’ve worn it every other week, and I like it more and more. The jeans are from WE too. I’m fairly certain I’m wearing some kind of t-shirt underneath, but as you don’t see it, it doesn’t matter that I forgot which one. Same goes for underwear and socks, in case you ever wondered.
color club beyond_9

These shoes were a sort-of-gift. I bought J. gloves, and he bought me shoes. It’s a bit more fun than as if I had bought myself shoes, and he would have bought himself gloves. It’s the little things. They are from Unisa (available at Humanic as far as I know, and most probably in a lot of other stores), 3 or 4 seasons back at least. In terms of make-up, the only “new” exciting think I’m wearing here is my lipgloss from Illamasqua in Belladonna. I’ve had it for a longer time, and I love it to bits. It stays on rather long, and it’s not sticky!

How I Wore it: Zoya Tracie

Do you also sometimes want something to work really badly and then it doesn’t? I have it on a regular basis. Firstly, I was really looking forward to wearing Zoya Tracie. I love the soft green color, and the fact that it is not another light green creme.
Zoya Tracie color club_2

I also wanted to wear an accent nail. Figuring it would fit together nicely with Zoya Tracie, I chose color club Holiday Splendor as an accent.
Zoya Tracie color club_1

In effect, I didn’t like Tracie on me, and it looked awkward with Holiday Splendor as an accent nail, mostly because Holiday Splendor leans more towards turquoise.
Zoya Tracie color club_5

Also, a third thing that didn’t work that day, was my hair. I had just blow-dried it, and it does this tiger-mane thing, that I hate.  I like it better when it stops looking as if I just put my hand in a socket.
Zoya Tracie color club_3

Basically, the only thing that worked for me that day, was my outfit. I really liked it – I tried wearing a necklace over my blouse for the first time, and I think it looks fun. The necklace is a gift from my mum, it comes with a corresponing bracelet, but I think that’s a bit much to wear at once. The pullover is from GAP, the blouse is from de bijenkorf, the jeans are from WE.
Zoya Tracie color club_4

What do you think, should I give Zoya Tracie a second try, or just call it a day? And should I have paired this outfit with some polish that would fit the necklace better? I think so…

How I wore it: all green

The few sunny days this winter have to be made use of! Mostly I take walks and enjoy the sun, but other times I wear holographic nail polish.

This particular sunny day, I was fed up by neutral colors and decided to wear as much green nail polish as I could.  So I put on sally hansen gentle blossom (thumb) color club Holiday Splendor over KIKO 391 (index finger), sonoma nail art mustard fields over KIKO297 (on middle finger), Nubar Reclaim (ring finger) and again KIKO 297 (pinkie).

Unfortunately, it was very windy, so the outfit-picture-taking process was a bit more difficult than usual.

As I wore all this green on my nails, I decided to opt for something tuquoise and then blue so I’d be ombre as a whole. My oants are from Uniqlo, t-shirt is Uniqlo too, the jacket (a gift from my aunt) is from Montego, which is sold at Peek&Cloppenburg, and the absolutely humongeous out of proportion 100% non recycled plastic ring is from H&M. The scarf was a gift from E and is from Cora Kemperman, my favorite Dutch designer next to Viktor & Rolf whom I can’t afford.

I loved this manicure a lot. I usually like everything to be in order, hence not every nail something else, but it was great to have this on for a fun Sunday!sally hansen gentle blossom_Nubar Reclaim_KIKO 391_KIKO297(lightgreen)_color club Holiday Splendor_sonoma nail art mustard fields_2

How I wore it: color club fame and fortune

I try to wear my polishes based on brand diversity. So when I pick an OPI one day, I’ll try to pick another brand the next day, and that’s when I realized I hadn’t worn color club fame and fortune in, like, forever.

color club fame and fortune_1

I decided to try to wear it on its own. That works for me – I used three coats, which was necessary, because the base color is a rather sheer red jelly, so visible nail line is to be expected. Luckily, the glitter shreds cover up some of that.

color club fame and fortune_2

Fame and Fortune was very glittery and sparkly. You can see how it looks in indirect light in my lightbox, so imagine how it looked under office light!

It was really, really cold that day, so instead of taking my coat off, I decided to just open it. Sorry for that. I was wearing a dress from Benetton, which has a color that can’t really be determined: it’s somewhat blue, but then it looks black again… do you know what I mean?

color club fame and fortune_7

The scarf is from H&M, they had a Marimekko cooperation some years back. I love the pink and orange combination, it is so happy! The coat is a present from another M.!

color club fame and fortune_8

The earrings are from a cute little shop in the first district, next to MAK. I totally forgot the name… I’m getting old. The boots are from Amsterdam. How awesome are pink boots!!

color club fame and fortune_5

For the face, I used the usual. Chanel Mascara, Inglot foundation and blush, and this time I picked Chanel Rose Dentielle for my lips. I love it because it looks as if I don’t wear lipstick, but as if I naturally looked awesome. Plus it smells nice.

color club fame and fortune_1 (1)

These are my keys. This is useless information, but I don’t know what else to say anymore. Oh, true, I forgot to mention that I really loved fame and fortune until I removed it, because that took forever (aka it felt as if it took 5 hours).

The blue metallic triarchy

The other day I received a big swap package, actually, I received two. They were from my swap fairies M. and M., and one of them contained China Glaze Blue Bells Ring, which I waved off as “another blue metallic”. So I figured, why not compare it to the “other” blue metallic polishes I have, to see which one I should keep.

Enter: Color Club Cold Metal and Orly Sweet Peacock. Cold Metal looked much darker and less metallic in the bottle, while Sweet Peacock looked a bit more turquoise than Blue Bells Ring. But, as it often is the case with metallics, the bottle impressions can fool you. color club cold metal_China Glaze Blue Bells Ring_Orly Sweet Peacock_1

From left to right, two coats: Color Club Cold Metal (pinkie, ring finger), China Glaze Blue Bells Ring (middle finger) and Orly Sweet Peacock (pointer). color club cold metal_China Glaze Blue Bells Ring_Orly Sweet Peacock_2

I used two coats for all of them to be able to give you a uniform look. Blue Bells Ring really doesn’t need two coats, one is sufficient. Overall I don’t think those three polishes are dupes. The smoothest looking one is Blue Bells Ring, Cold Metal is much darker, and Sweet Peacock looks somewhat more grainy; it is also slightly more turquoise than the other two.color club cold metal_China Glaze Blue Bells Ring_Orly Sweet Peacock_3

In the end Blue Bells Ring won in terms of formula and also I like the color the best.   color club cold metal_China Glaze Blue Bells Ring_Orly Sweet Peacock_4

If there are any polishes you want me to compare, just let me know!

spotted!

Due to my need to look respectable, knowledgeable and presentable at work, I go head over heels absurdly crazy on the weekend when I can wear whatever on my nails, because I will only get the weird looks from my friends. Hence, the only logical conclusion is to wear all the neon colors I can think of at once, right?Cult Nails Deal with it_ChG In the limelight_ChG Pool Party_NOPI Lemon-Lime Twist_Milani Hi-Tech_essie funky limelight_Color Club Jingle Jangle_Claires Sandart_Illamasqua Stance1

I started off with two coats of wet’n'wild white creme and then randomly brushed on different colors. I can tell you, it looked very artistic and grown up. I’m now going to name all the polishes I used, so enjoy…Cult Nails Deal with it, China Glaze In the limelight, China Glaze Pool Party, NOPI Lemon-Lime Twist, Milani Hi-Tech, essie funky limelight, Color Club Jingle Jangle, Claires Sandart, and Illamasqua Stance.

Yeah, and then I used OPI Spotted over this. This was fun, but due to the fact that I used so many layers of polish, it didn’t dry very well and later that day I bumped into something and I took this off the day after. But still, every once in a while, I enjoy wearing crazy stuff!Cult Nails Deal with it_ChG In the limelight_ChG Pool Party_NOPI Lemon-Lime Twist_Milani Hi-Tech_essie funky limelight_Color Club Jingle Jangle_Claires Sandart_Illamasqua Stance_OPI Black Spotted_2 Cult Nails Deal with it_ChG In the limelight_ChG Pool Party_NOPI Lemon-Lime Twist_Milani Hi-Tech_essie funky limelight_Color Club Jingle Jangle_Claires Sandart_Illamasqua Stance_OPI Black Spotted_3 Cult Nails Deal with it_ChG In the limelight_ChG Pool Party_NOPI Lemon-Lime Twist_Milani Hi-Tech_essie funky limelight_Color Club Jingle Jangle_Claires Sandart_Illamasqua Stance_OPI Black Spotted_4

Zoya Myrta Harlekin Nails

Meet Zoya Myrta, a beautiful orange-red (Zoya says coral) with a metallic, even foily finish. The color itself is super vibrant and the metallic gold shimmer adds a warm hue to the color. I used two coats and I absolutely loved wearing Myrta.

I wasn’t prepared to like Myrta as much as I did, mainly because I am of the opinion that orange doesn’t go very well with my skintone and usual choice of outfit. Nevertheless, this was such an attractive color that I just had to change my mind!

In the end I had a bit of tipwear (I type quite a lot, as you can imagine – at least a blogpost a day!), so I wanted to try a tapemanicure again.  I opted for triangles, pointing towards my cuticles. For the triangles I used color club Artsy Craftsy. I decied to name those Harlekin Nails, as they somehow reminded me of Harlekins.

Artsy Crafty is a very dark dusty green creme polish, which was not a good choice to use over Myrta, because it doesn’t cover in one coat.  In effect, the triangles turned out to be a bit fat. I also added a dot at the end of each triangle, in Illamasqua Swinger. I liked the design, but I think next time I’ll pick less contrasting colors, and definitely a polish that covers better.

This is what it looked like from further away. What do you think?

Take the Voodoo stage

I have such a backlog on Color Club polishes, it’s unbelievable! I hope you don’t mind seeing some older Color Clubs – I tried to spice it up a bit by layering options.

Today I would like to show you Color Club Voodoo you do (sounds like a spoonerism almost!), which is a murkier, darker version if OPI Cuckoo for this color. I used two coats of it, and it leveled out just fine. I expected it to be much streakier but it turned out just fine. I must say that it is just a tad too green for my liking, but it is a really pretty winter color.

I decided to layer Color Club Take the Stage over it which is an extremely dense glitter topcoat. The main color is gold, but there aren’t only small round golden glitters, but also golden glitter shreds and sparsely, holographic glitters. One of the glitter toppers from the essence Snow White collection reminds me a lot of it, namely The Huntsman.

I made pics in various lightening so you’d be able to get a good idea of just how sparkly this is (first: daylight, then: artificial light, then: flash).

What do you think about these super blingy golden glitter toppers? Yay or nay?

Pink SPAM

Before I forget: Have you entered one of my Giveaways yet? My Giveaway extravaganza is still open for another day, and you can win absurdly much, thanks to some awesome nail polish makers who gifted some of the prizes. Oh and you can click any of the underlined words, as there are 7 Giveaways, and each link will take you to one of them.
Anyone in need of some Pink SPAM?

I’ll try to get my usual rambling down to a minimum, so you can enjoy all the pics and pinks!

Island Girl Island Lei. Very awesome. It’s covering perfectly in one coat! I like the tone of pink, I like that it is a foil and coverage in one coat? I’m sold!

I thought it looked very much like funky fingers Favourite Girl, but I was very much mistaken. Favourite Girl (on pointer and middle finger) has much more silver in it, and it doesn’t cover in one coat but two. Also it is much lighter and much more girly.

I don’t know why but I thought I’d layer some glitter over that. I chose Color Club Wish Upon A Rockstar, but in retrospective I think that might not have been the right choice. Wish Upon A Rockstar is a mix of green, gold, red round glitter and larger lavender hex glitters. I am not very fond of this combination.

Jordana Burgundy is a metallic red-toned pink, which looks much better on the nail than in the bottle. It’s a bit streaky, but not too bad. 2 coats.

L’óreal Violet Vixen. It’s amazingly shiny, and it’s a nice safe fuchsia. 2 coats.

Sinful Colors I miss you over L’óreal Violet Vixen. I miss you is a mixture of silver, purple and the eventual sparse holographic glitter. 1 coat.

L’óreal Wishful Pinking. Shimmery medium pink. Very vivid, nice and safe pink choice. 2 coats.

wet’n'wild Kaleidoscope over L’óreal Wishful Pinking. Funnily enough, I have nothing like it – it’s a silver holographic glitter topcoat. Looks great over dark blue too! 1 coat.

Milani Grand Canyon Sunset. So not my colour but if you like a brown/mauve shimmery color, application is flawless and it is really shiny.

Milani Sweetest Pink. Not the most unique color, but I love the yellow/gold flash and application was good. 2 coats.

MISA Summer Love. Super squishy glass fleck pink. 3 coats, because it’s a bit sheer.

Which one is your favourite?
