More Magnetics? IsaDora has them!

Today I want to show you the magnetic nail polishes IsaDora released lately. I received three colors to review, and I want to be upfront with you: I think apart from the Layla magnetics, those were the best magnetic polishes I tried yet.
The IsaDora magnetic polishes have a paper wrapping around the brush handle with a magnet attached, so you can easily remove this husk and you don’t have to turn the bottle upside down or anything like it. The magnet needs to be held to the nail for approximately 15 seconds – I opted for 20, just in case – and it forms clear, crisp lines. I found out that I should have let that dry for 30 seconds before applying SV, because that smears the lines a bit. The magnet works very good with other polishes too!

I’ll start with my favourite, Gun Metal (#851).It’s a mix of greenish, yellowish, brownish mustard color, but it’s nowhere as ugly as that sounds. In the bottle it looks more gold, but after all the particles moved around because of the magnets, it shifts color a bit. It’s a very understated gold that I could easily pull off at work, but it’s not boring either.

Northern Light is a metallic dusky grey that shifts to purple. I was trying hard to catch the effect but it didn’t work out very well. Again, super crisp lines! I applied a coat of Northern Light first without using the magnet, and after that was dry, I applied a very thick coat over the first one and used the magnet right away. This has worked best for me so far.

Iron Lady is a purple magnetic polish. I have the feeling we have seen this before. If it wasn’t for the quality of the magnet/magnetic polish from IsaDora, I wouldn’t have mentioned or had anything to be excited about.

All in all I have to say that I was again amazed by the quality of these polishes. Except for the color choices sometimes, IsaDora has not failed me yet – and I’m totally in love with Gun Metal!

These polishes were sent to me for free and without conditions. Thank you!

Drawn to magnetix!

Magnetics are the ant’s pants this season. I have no idea if I use this expression right, but I have to use it for two reasons: 1.) the dictionary told me it was right and 2.) it’s hilarious.

So. Stop Laughing. Ant’s pants. Yes. Magnetics.

These magnetic polishes are from ICING. I haven’t been able to identify a name on them, so due to lack of that I’m calling them “blue” and “red.” Creative, no?

What I’ve learned from playing around with my magnetic polishes is, that you have to apply one regular coat and let it dry thoroughly; alternatively you can use a non-magnetic polish as a first coat. Then, apply the second coat of magnetic polish quickly and rather thick, hold the magnet over it for at least 10 seconds and wait for the design to show up. try not to hold the magnet too far away, as the pattern won’t show up nicely, but don’t hold it so close that you make dips into the design.

I tried various patterns and sofar the magnet from the Layla magnetics is my favourite, followed by the KIKO star shaped magnet.

This is ICING “red”:

This is ICING “blue”, where I tried the wave pattern. Doesn’t work very well for me…

Do you think magnetics are cool or just some fancyschmancy stuff used to up nail polish sales?

Heck, yes! After I finally figured out how to use magnetics, I can’t stop playing with them. I actually just swatch them to play with the magnet. I don’t know how many of you had one of those science kits, but mine came with a whole bunch of magnets one could play with, and I must admit I loved them.  So obviouslyI’m loving those magnetic polishes!

The other day I passed by the flormar stand here in Vienna (infos here) and I saw that they had magnetic polishes in their display so I grabbed three of them and ran home to try them out. I picked a red, a blue and a glittery grey, and I must say I love them all. They were something around 4 or 5 €, which is okay I guess. The colours are nice and I really like the polishes; except the magnets, which I don’t like the least bit so I made all those swatches with the striped magnet from layla or the wavy magnet from China Glaze.

EDIT: I found a post on Lacquer Buzz, and she removed the flormar magnet from the weird little holding device, and it appears to work much better. Check it out for details here!

MG05 is the red magnetic polish. I applied it once without using the magnet, and then I applied a second coat using the wavy  magnet. The pattern formed quickly, but it only stays if you hold the magnet for 10-15 seconds. The effect is pretty strong and I like the contrast of the dark and light red stripes a lot. I turned the magnet 90 degrees on each finger to see what patterns it could produce.

MG08 is the charcoal glittery polish. Out of the three magnetics, I liked this one the best. I applied it just like the red one using the magnet only for the second coat of polish. I used the striped magnet from my Layla magnetic polish for this pattern. I recently read about some depend magnetic polishes to come out and I think that this grey glittery magnetic looks similar to the depend one. Maybe I’ll get my hands on it, then I can compare them for you.

MG06 is the blue magnetic polish. Again I applied it twice, using the wavy magnet. The design formed easily and clearly but it didn’t want to stay all nice and crisp. I have to say that I don’t mind it too much except for the design on my ring finger.

So what do you think of the flormar magnetics? Or have you had enough of magnetic polishes already?
