Your weekly dose of holo: color club harp on it

Hi there! I know, I know, it is not really your weekly dose of holo. It’s mor eof an eventual holographic nail polish related post. Well, I try to keep it up again, thanks to the seasons, I have more opportunities to make nice pictures for you again.

color club Harp on it – your “standard” silver holographic nail polish. The color is silver, there’s no doubt. Plus you can see the rainbow effect, so it must be a holographic polish. I used 2 coats. The first picture is taken in the lightbox (indirect light).
color club harp on it_1

Well. Your average silver holo looks your average silver holo on steroids if you see it in direct light.

See the awesome rainbow effect? I think this is the strongest silver holo to ever reach my tips. (Pictures were made with flash!)

What do you think?

How I wore it: Jessica Sterling Queen / Nadia

This is the one of the last posts I have “left over” from this winter – considering that it is super cold here at the moment, it fits.

Right when I saw Vampy Varnish’s swatches of the spring/summer collection “It’s a girl thing” from Jessica, I knew I had to have some. I think the double names are quite a fun idea. The polish I’m showing you today is named after Jessica‘s friend Nadia. For everyone else, this polish is called Sterling Queen.
Jessica Nadia Sterling Queen_1

Nadia/Sterling Queen is a grey shimmer polish. It is right inbetween three colors – grey, silver, blue. I have nothing like it in my collection and fell for it right away. The application was good, no issues to report. I used two coats for full coverage. The polish dries almost streak-less.  All in all the polish may not look like much on the press release or in the bottle, but I have a thing for polishes like this one (and generally I like gray and in-between colors!). It is the one I liked the most from this collection.
Jessica Nadia Sterling Queen_3

I wore this whole thing with a minty shirt from GAP, a blue pullover from GAP and blue pants from Benetton. The necklace is from Pieces I think, and the shoes are from Asos. Man, am I happy it stopped snowing, now that I look at these pics again!!Jessica Nadia Sterling Queen_2 Thanks to the lovely PR-lady from Jessica, who sent me this polish to try.

How I wore it: KIKO 646 Starry Black

Sand Style, Liquid Sand, Sugar Matte, Texture, and who knows what other names companies will come up with for gritty glitter. First we all hated it, now it’s the coolest thing in the world! Well, I’m not guilt-free, and I also jumped on the gritty matte bandwagon.
KIKO 646_2

I ordered some KIKO polishes with the help of nail polish friend K., and I felt like putting this black with silver glitter one on first. It is called Starry Black and has the number 646.KIKO 646_1

As the polish is rather monochrome, I decided to pair it with a black and white outfit. I chose white shoes from Dorothy Perkins – we call them Budapester, I don’t know if you call them that as well. They are pretty awesome and as I assumed they won’t be available long, I bought the same pair twice, just in case. This is my first pair, but I think they won’t survive many more seasons.
KIKO 646_3

The pants are from H&M, the blouse is from WE and the cardigan is from H&M too. I really liked the cardigan when I bought it, because of the nice lace inlay over the shoulders, but it somehow got broader, and now it looks a bit out of proportions. I hate it when clothes do that, I feel like I bough crappy quality.
KIKO 646_4

Well. Here’s my interpretation of a jump on the bandwagon. I didn’t really know what to do or how to pose, so this is what came out of this. Thank you B. for making me make a fool of myself, always fun! ;)
KIKO 646_5

The ring I’m wearing is super dangerous btw. It seems like a cute little rabbit, but the material has such sharp edges, I actually cut my finger with those murderous ears.

Sunday Spam More Glitter!

Wishing you a fine Sunday from behind my computer. Hope you all have time to relax before the week starts again!

Today I’m showing you some glitter combinations I wore, tried out and swatched.

First up is Jessica Hot Hot Hot (over butter LONDON Trout Pout). I wanted Hot Hot Hot to be a covering glitter, but what you see below is already two coats. It is pretty and all, but I was hoping for something different.
butter LONDON Trout Pout_Jessica Hot Hot Hot_1

essie a cut above (over Catrice Have a good day) is hands down my favorite pink glitter. What I like about it is the variety of sizes, but the unity in color. And the glitter payoff is wonderful – this is one coat.
Catrice Have a good day_essie a cut above_1

H&M has been stepping up their game when it comes to nail polish. I’m wearing Purple Sprinkles (over Chanel Frenzy), which is a mix of purple glitters and holographic bar glitter. It isn’t a very dense glitter, but it works for a “pimp my office manicure” emergency. Plus, if you like purple, you’ll most probably like it anyhow.
Chanel Frenzy_H&M Purple Sprinkles_1

Well, unfortunately, after I put on Purple Sprinkles, I somehow got caught somewhere and ripped a piece of skin from my cuticle. It was very painful, and I didn’t dare to change my manicure, so I just added a coat of nails inc soho street. Sorry about the picture, but I so absolutely adored soho street over Chanel Frenzy, I couldn’t pass on showing you this. And in case you were wondering, this is one coat!

Another H&M polish, Confetti Time, which I liked. It’s a mix of pink, blue and gold glitters, in different sizes (over Chanel Malice). Cute, and I can see this to be worn in many combinations.
Chanel Malice_H&M Confetti Time_2

This is a tricky combination: The base color is nails inc disco lane (total light box fail, trying to photograph the holographic glitter in there!) and I lazily painted on a silver/holographic glitter from SpaRitual called Illumination and butter LONDON Lovely Jubbly (the pink). Not my best combination.

I have a thing for multicolored glitters too, so I adored OPI Rainbow Connection (Nicka K NY138, hands down one of the best greens I own!). Nothing wrong with a little easter manicure, is there?

Nicka K NY138_OPI Rainbow Connection_2

And the last one for today is China Glaze Marry A Millionaire on the tips (over OPI DS temptation). I totally love this glitter, and I’m so not over bar glitter yet, especially the smaller kind.

Your weekly dose of Holo: GOSH Holographic Hero

I’m trying hard to give you back your holographic Saturdays!

Consider this a passing of the peace pipe. Today for you: GOSH Holographic Hero, the copycat of GOSH Holographic. Nothing special to this silver polish in my lightbox (although there are some vaguely perceptible hints of yellow, pink and blue…!).GOSH Holographic Hero_1

That’s all different under artificial light. Bham! goes the holo.GOSH Holographic Hero_2

I heard, that GOSH Holographic was much better than GOSH Holographic Hero, but as I don’t care for silver holographic polishes too much anyhow, I’m fine. Unfortunately, the bottle cap tells you that this is a manicure for 1 night, so don’t expect it to last forever on your nails. I used 2 coats, just in case you wondered.GOSH Holographic Hero_3 GOSH Holographic Hero_4

Help! I’m stuck in different dimensions – again

Those different dimensions polishes keep us busy, huh?!

Part one –> click  here.
Part two —> click here.

I received I will follow you into the dark, and I though, meh, this looks like a super boring generic silver. No! I couldn’t have been more wrong! Don’t ever think this about I will follow you into the dark!different dimension I will follow you into the dark_3

What a mistake. I applied it – it applies like a dream – and within seconds, the brushstrokes vanished. In effect, I used two coats, dream application, super quick drying time, and that polish shines!!different dimension I will follow you into the dark_2

You can see in the pictures just how shiny it is, but can you imagine that it is even more shiny in reality? I had the feeling I was wearing mirrors on my nails. different dimension I will follow you into the dark_1

Well, all in all I can only tell you that I have seldomly been more wrong in my initial assessment of a nail polish. I absolutely adore this look, the color is intense and the look overall just drool-worthy.different dimension I will follow you into the dark_4

The other different dimensions polish I have for you today is fight like a girl, a breast cancer special from Missi. It’s a glitter topcoat that consists of mainly small silver and holographic glitters, and mixed through it are pink, black and lightblue glitters.SpaRitual Camellia_different dimension fight like a girl_2

I was very happy about the glitter payoff in this one, one coat over SpaRitual Camellia was enough – Camellia on the other hand was horrible, it refused to dry. This is not what I had gotten used to from SpaRitual polishes, very frustrating.SpaRitual Camellia_different dimension fight like a girl_1

I love the combination of pink creme as a base and colorful sparkle on top.  SpaRitual Camellia_different dimension fight like a girl_4

Anyhow, fight like a girl is cute – the name is very witty and nicely chosen for the cause. In the end, I ended up giving this polish to my friend B. because she just loved it more than I did. SpaRitual Camellia_different dimension fight like a girl_3

I made a close-up for you again. Hope that you like them – if not, let me know, that will mean less work for me! :) SpaRitual Camellia_different dimension fight like a girl_41

Believe it!

Today I have a polish for you that has been sitting in my drawers for ever and a day. Slowly I’m making my swatch way through the halls of nail polish shame, as I should actually call my storage solution.

I bought this deborah lippmann polish some time back at a blogsale when the whole juicy couture trio was offered for very little. I decided I had to expand my deborah lippmann horizon, so Believe became mine. I since believed that Believe was super sheer and put off wearing it. Luckily, came work and the need for less eye searing combinations than this, so Believe was taken out of its forgotten place.deborah lippmann believe_1

The color of Believe is a bit warmer than in the picture above, but it shows the amazing sparkle better. The pics below show the color better. deborah lippmann believe_3

I love pink, you know that, recently I love red, I don’t think I failed to tell you that, but I also lovelovelove gold. This polish qualifies still for “gold”, because it is too warm to not be, and isn’t silver either. It’s a metallic shiny hue that lies over it. Funnily  I was totally smitten by this, even though it would have bored me to death a couple of month back. Has my taste changed? No, I’d still totally wear neon yellow. But this is a great fresh start for my nails! deborah lippmann believe_2

IsaDora News

I came home after my holiday to find so many awesome things waiting for me (one of them being my friend B.), that I couldn’t decide what the best one was. But I’m absolutely certain that these two collections from IsaDora were- no, still are! – on top of the list. Polar Nights, Arctic Treasure and North Star are from the Northern Lights holiday collection, the rest is from the Jewels of the Orient Collection.

I decided to show you all but one polish today. So maybe grab a cup of coffee first, as this is going to be a loooooong post!
I just want to mention that the application was a dream. I love the short, wide IsaDora brushes, and the formula of these polishes was so creamy and buttery, I was amazed. Again. IsaDora polishes aren’t really cheap at 10€ a piece, but they are well worth it, especially since they’re working hard on expanding their line and making some unique and mind-blowing polishes.

IsaDora 741 Black Amethyst is a shimmery purple polish. It is a blackened purple, so it is really dark. I’m not the biggest purple lover in the world, but I’m sure that if you love purple, you will love this polish. I’m showing you one coat. Yes, honestly, one.

IsaDora 745 Persian Princess is a medium purple shimmer. It is one of those purples that freak out my camera, so the real color is somewhat between the pictures. I used two coats for this.

IsaDora 751 Arctic Treasure over essie jamaica me crazy. I used one coat – Arctic Treasure is a golden glitter polish, which I think everyone should have. At least either a golden or a silver glitter topper! I personally prefer the small glitters, so I love this. Adds the necessary sparkle!

IsaDora 749 North Star over Make Up Store Marcus. The twin brother of Arctic Treasure – a fine silver glitter topper. I used one coat, and I can’t decide which one I like better. It’s so hard to find just one colored one sized glitters these days, and finally there’s the answer!

My two favourites from this collection are, surprisingly, the blues. I have kept one color aside, a flaming red, but more on that later! IsaDora 750 Polar Night is a royal blue jelly packed with a mix of small round and larger hexagonal silver glitter. I absolutely adore it, it looks like the night sky! I used two coats, and look how sparkly it is! As an extra, I added a close up of my nail – please let me know in the comments if you like to see close-ups of glitters like that!

IsaDora 746 Silk Road is another winner in my books. I can’t even name all the colors in this polish – I can see some yellow and green and shades of blue, maybe some purple too? This polis is so eclectic, it’s hard to say. I used two coats, and I couldn’t stop staring at this beauty. sigh…

Which one is your favourite?

The products in this post were provided to me for my honest review.

Your weekly dose of Holo: How I wore it: Paul and Joe 030

We’re near the end of the Paris pictures! They lasted quite long though, I’m surprised how many E took!

Today I want to show you a nail polish by Paul and Joe. I didn’t know they sold nail polish in stores until I discovered the Paul and Joe store in Paris! Well, they had a huge display and I found it very difficult not to just buy everything, because their packaging is so cute!

This is really the cutest nail polish bottle I’ve seen. Luckily, the product inside is great too, so I can proudly say I didn’t only fall for the packaging. The polish is called 030, no name, just a number. It is gorgeous though. 030 is a silver holographic polish, but it isn’t linear, it’s more scattered.

It’s also special with regard to its texture. When applying it, it looks as if it consisted of holographic silver flecks in a clear base, but it covers completely in two coats and it dries super glossy and without any texture. I am totally smitten by it!

We took these pictures at Canal Saint Martin in Paris. It is also where parts of the Amelie movie was filmed and it is a popular hang-out spot. Basically you can take your picnic basket and eat at the water, or you can go to the near-by park.

My favorite part is to watch the tourist boat being lifted up to the upper part of the canal in the watergate. Watergates fascinate me!

Also there are a lot of cafés around and most of them offer their beverages to go, so you have the choice between a terrace and just sitting at the canal side.

I am wearing a dress from KOOKAI and shoes from Ruby’s shoes (in Paris), and the lipstick is from KIKO. I love the dress, it is so flattering!

As always, the stupid pictures in the end – E and I had gotten hooked to Pretty Little Liars, one of the worst shows in history I think, but so addicting. In this show nothing makes sense, so we thoroughly enjoyed watching it! In any case, if you’ve seen the intro to the show, you’ll get where the ‘inspiration’ comes from!

Did you try any Paul and Joe nail polishes yet?

How I wore it: Peggy Sage Rainbow Silver

I can’t really believe it, it’s been two month now that I returned from my summer in Paris, and I still have How I wore it posts from Paris. I hope they can cheer up those of you that live in places that have already been conquered by cold autumn/winter mornings!

As always, if you have no interest in seeing my face, I suggest to cut out a circle of paper – black, if you’re more into espionage/agent movies, white, if you feel the need for purity, or maybe a celeb’s face, for fun – and hold it in front of you while reading this post.

As for the nailpolish: I’m wearing three thin coats of Peggy Sage Rainbow Silver. It’s a very faint but linear silver holographic polish. It’s not really a topcoat like Hits Hefesto, but it isn’t China Glaze OMG either.

Rainbow Silver lasted 3 days without chips on me, which is surprising for a holographic polish, and even more surprising for me.

I’m wearing a dress I bought at Target in Australia – we had 4 hours to kill in Katherine, Australia, and the only shop we found that was open (except for some fast food joint) was Target, so we tried on hats and shirts with flower prints and what have you, just to kill time, when I found this dress. At I think something like 9 Euros, I decided to take it with as a souvenir from Katherine.

The shoes are from Paris, I bought them at Galerie Lafayette. The mail box is property of the French State. The ring is from pieces I think or any equally affordable fashion jewellery store.Look! One can pretend to send nail polish!

And, what do you think?
