How I wore it: Sephora by OPI Ocean Love Potion and Cover Band Sticks’n'Stones

Ah, holidays… the best days there are. Especially when I get to spend them in India (without an upset stomach, that is.)!

This vacation I decided to bring Sephora by OPI Ocean Love Potion with me, and of course, Cover Band Sticks’n'Stones. I took Sticks’n'Stones to Paris with me, and I realized that it is better than cement on your nails – it makes manicures last for days! That’s why it is now my travel polish. It may go whereever I go! (Let’s not forget the obvious fact that I like this polish and find it to match almost everything)SOPI_sticksnstones_0

Anyhow. This time around, we decided to visit Hampi. Hampi is a small village, in earlier times it was the capital of a whole kingdom, housing 100x more inhabitants than today. The temple area is huge, with temples spread out all over the hills, which are plastered with round granite rocks.SOPI_sticksnstones_3

We stayed in Hampi for two nights, so we’d have enough time to visit all the sights. In effect, one day of sightseeing is sufficient, if you stay on one side of the river. If you want to visit the temples on the other side of the river, you might want to add a day to your stay. SOPI_sticksnstones_2

About the polish: Sephora by OPI Ocean Love Potion is a darker turquoise creme, which looks just a little bit dusty. I applied two coats, it went on smoothly, and I didn’t have any application issues.SOPI_sticksnstones_1

Unfortunately, in the course of Hampi being declared a UNESCO world heritage site, the Indian Authorities decided to tear down the bazar in front of the temple - while that may be a good idea (provided all the laws were followed and the people were given compensation, both of which I have reason to doubt), it would have been a great idea to clean up the area. Instead, they just installed a provisional fence around the rubble (as if anyone would care that there is a fence!), and left if be for almost two years now. One’s gotta love good organisation.SOPI_sticksnstones_4

The temples are beautiful nevertheless. I love the form of those mughal archways, and the scenery is amazing. The whole area is a hilly valley, with temples and a broad riverbed. The second day we were there, we went to see the Hanuman (Monkeygod) temple, which is all the way on top of a hill overlooking the valley. SOPI_sticksnstones_5

The temple and view were wonderful, but let me tell you, climing the stairs up to the temple at noon is a horrible idea. I had literally turned into a water fountain when I reached the top. It was yucky. Also, there are too many monkeys on this hill! They steal the shop vendor’s bananas and run after the tourists. I don’t want to get rabies, so I’m crazy scared of the monkeys and scream while running away if they come to close.SOPI_sticksnstones_6

When I went to the temple, I had put on sticks’n'stones over Ocean Love Potion. Isn’t the view amazing? We climbed up all that way, and we were completely finished when we were on top; imagine having to climb this up all the way every other day!SOPI_sticksnstones_8

Oh and in case you were wondering, of course we couldn’t find anything without our guide book :) SOPI_sticksnstones_9

Galinda, run with it!

Oh, the joy of work life. I get to wear all those polishes I liked by the thought of it, but never really wore, because they seemed to ‘boring’ at the time. One of my favorites of these ‘boring’ polishes is Sephora by OPI Run with it. The color is difficult to describe – it is neither beige nor nude nor grey, it’s a mixture of all three colors, mixed with a slight golden shimmer. I actually received quite some compliments on this! 2 coats.SOPI Run with it_1

I didn’t want to take it off after two days (that’s a long wear time for me!), so I added Cirque Galinda over it, but only halfway over the nail, to create a gradient look. Galinda is the perfect snow glitter. It consists of white and iridescent glitters and flakes in different shapes and sizes. This is one of the most subtle yet most versatile glitters I’ve seen.SOPI Run with it_Cirque Galinda_1 SOPI Run with it_Cirque Galinda_2 SOPI Run with it_Cirque Galinda_3

Doesn’t this look like a princess-in-the-snow glitter to you?

SOPI Skinny Jeans vs. SOPI Tempted by Teal

Today I have another comparison post for you. I thought that SOPI Skinny Jeans looked very much like SOPI Tempted by Teal, so I figured I’d only needed to keep one. I’m only writing SOPI, but the brand is Sephora by OPI.

I use two coats for each, and I had a teensy bit of VNL with SOPI Skinny Jeans, but only if I looked closely. Skinny Jeans is a bit lighter and a bit more blue than Tempted by Teal, and also the shimmer in Skinny Jeans is greenish which makes the whole polish look a bit cooler. Tempted by Teal shows all these super tiny glitter particles in the bottle, and these give the polish a touch of a metallic finish.

Which one do you like better? I prefer Tempted by Teal, and have since relocated Skinny Jeans :)

Sephora by OPI ‘Sue vs Shoe’ vs. ‘Opening Night’

Anyone else having the Monday Blues? Well, I have two blues for you on this fine Monday! I had a great weekend. I had two visitors, free concerts here in Paris in front of the Hôtel De Ville, good food thanks to leftovers from Fauchon, and just generally a lot of fun. And you?

Back to the polish. Today, two blues are battling for a place in my nail polish drawer, and only one can win: SOPI Sue vs. Shue and SOPI Opening Night.

Above: Opening Night in daylight. Below: Sue vs. Shue in daylight

I used two coats of each. Both Sue vs. Shue and Opening Night are dark blues with shimmer. I’d call it a prussian blue.

You can’t see much of a difference when you look at the two in artificial light: above: Opening Night, below: Sue vs. Shue

I don’t think there is enough difference between the two polishes to keep them both. Sue vs. Shue looks a bit deeper, because it is less shimmery and more glassflecky in its finish, and Opening Night leans more towards a frosty finish. Never the less, the difference is marginal, and since I rarely wear dark blues, I am only going to keep one.

above: Opening Night, with flash. Below: Sue vs. Shue with flash.

I am definitely keeping Sue vs. Shue because: It’s a mini bottle and it’s unlikely I will ever empty even a mini bottle; it belongs to the other 6 mini Glee collection SOPIs and I like the finish just a tad better than the one from Opening Night. Would you have decided the same?

Who let the Dorks out? vs. You’re S-teal the One

Don’t ask me why, but when I was looking at those two colors in the bottle, I thought they might be similar:

Sephora by OPI Who let the Dorks out? and Nicole by OPI You’re S-teal the one.

Who let the Dorks out is a green-leaning teal, very shimmery and rather sheer, while You’re S-teal the one is a bright medium blue, between frost and metallic, which gives the impression of maybe being a duo chrome in the bottle (it isn’t). Both colors obviously aren’t the same….

below: daylight (First: You’re S-teal the one, second: Who let the Dorks out?)

Below: Both colors in artificial light

Lastly I tried to show this slightest tiniest least amount of duo chrome both of them try to have. This was seriously the best I got out of them!

Which one do you like better?

Eve and the Commet-Ment

I had this polish standing on my desk for quite some time – I just couldn’t decide if I liked it or not. You all know how I am towards purples, and this one has the slightest tendency towards brown (as it is a red-toned purple), so that didn’t really help.

I finally got around to wearing it, and while I imagine this to look gorgeous on other girls (and guys, if you will), we just didn’t click.

Eve-y on the eyes is part of the Sephora by OPI (SOPI) mini set Garden of Good and Evil. It is a red-toned purple, very warm and has some nice blue-ish shimmer in it.

You can see the shimmer best in artificial light (above). Below: daylight.

I didn’t like the color too much so I decided to put some glitter on it. Glitter has been my solution to all nail polish problems lately. I decided I would like to show you a dupe – Nicole by OPI Make a Comet-Ment and Sephora by OPI Celibacy Club (Part of the Glee collection). Both are holographic glitter topcoats, and they really are the same. But see for yourself (both 1 coat)!

Can you tell them apart? I really can’t. I think OPI just re-used one to make the other. Which is ok by me, because I was sad I only had a mini bottle of Celibacy Club!

Do you also just slap on some glitter if your manicure seems boring to you?

How I wore it: OPI Skull & Glossbones stamped

Today I have another How I wore it post for you. It is a longer, picture heavy post, because it took me sometime to get my manicure where I wanted it to be – also it’s the product of a couple of days, as I kept adding layers!

I started off with two coats of OPI Skull & Glossbones, which is a chalky light gray creme. (My picture here is a tad too warm)Then – meaning, a day after – I added a layer of SOPI A color that can’t be tamed. I wore A color that can’t be tamed on its own, but it is rather sheer, so I prefer t layered. It’s one of those colors that I like to layer over my current manicure if I get bored of it.The next day, I felt something more flashy was needed, so I went ahead and layered one coat of Hits Hefesto over it. Hefesto is a sheer holographic topcoat, which means that you can layer it over anything, adding holographic effect but changing the underlying basecolor only minimally.

And on day 4 I decided to stamp over all those coats of nail polish.

I’m wearing that with a cardigan from review and a dress from tezenis, which i got on sale :) I love sale-shopping! Don’t you?

So, what do you think? Do you also have some tricks up your sleeve to make a manicure last longer? Or do you just remove the nail polish if you get bored?

Holland in a week: Part 4

Today I have for you the beautiful, the stunning, the marvelous OPI I don’t give a Rotterdam. What can I tell you about it? It has a sky blue base, with just the right amount of ‘dusty’ in there, and then there are these golden glassflecks in it, which makes it so special. 2 coats.

I added butter LONDON Knackered over it. Knackered is from the latest butter LONDON collection, and it is a sheer duo chrome with tiny holographic glitter in it. The duochrome polish shifts from purple to green, but it has a sheer blue base, so it is perfect to be layered over blue. Uh so pretty!

The second polish for today is OPI I have a herring problem. It is very similar to I don’t give a Rotterdam, but it leans more towards green and the flecks are silver. Also 2 coats – and just as pretty as I don’t give a Rotterdam. If the blue with gold flecks doesn’t fit your skin tone, here is your other option!

I felt a bit more bold so I layered SOPI Only Gold For Me over it. I’m very fond of the dusty green-tinted blue base with bold golden glitter on top.

What do you think about today’s combinations?

Clarins 230 dupe?

How are you all enjoying the cold? It’s incredibly cold here in Austria, actually, it is so cold I’m afraid for my fingers to fall off soon and my breath to turn into ice cubes. Great weather to be outside…. uhm, no.

Today I want to show you Sephora by OPI Opening Night, which is a very dark blue shimmer (2 coats) with something on top which makes the hearts of nail polish addicts sing…. Be:Yu 209, a supposed dupe for Clarins 230.

First: SOPI Opening Night in artificial light, no flash.

Did you know there is a “good” and a “bad” version of 209? Well, luckily it’s pretty easy to tell them apart in the bottle – and I found a “good” version. So let’s see if it really comes close to Clarins 230… Here is one coat of Be:Yu 209 over Opening Night in artificial light (no flash).

And here it is in daylight – you can see the colour shift from red to green much better in daylight.

So, what do you think? I’m undecided.
